Sounds like the filtering which occurs with many (most?) video cards, when using hwstretch.

Lets see if I understand you correctly. The filtering that occurs with my other cards using hwstretch is what makes the images display with a more "blocky/sharper image" and my ATI card is (possibly) stretching without using filtering? Correct? So... how do I get my other cards to stretch without filtering? Or is that even possible? Is there a setting in Mame that can do this?

Other way around. The cards that stretch WITH filtering makes the display look blurry.
Which is a good thing when dealing with software that expects a blurry display.


It's possible to force cards that normally stretch with a filter to stretch without one, but I don't think the opposite is true.

How much of a difference are you talking? Could you post a couple of comparison pics?
