When to upload to the Library
« on: September 14, 2005, 11:15:04 pm »
So here's the deal.  I've finished a bunch of vectorizations.  I think they look good.

I haven't printed them out or anything yet.  I do plan on doing so, but until I do, I'm not really comfortable uploading them because I don't know the quality once printed.  Color matching etc.

So, the question is, do you upload to the Arcade Art Library when the work is done, but not printed/tested?  or after a print and you see if any adjustments need to be made?

I have that F-14 (Side art and head art), Road Blasters (fake side art/Nintendo Box and marquee, and now I just finished the Baby Pac CPO.  I haven't uploaded any of it yet, mostly because I don't want anyone freaking out on me because it's not 100%.  I want it to be 100% for myself, and don't want anyone else to beleive it's 100% before I've verified it.

Make Sense?

just my feedback.

any of the art I traced was printed and matched by myself ;)
any of the art I traced was color matched versus an original (I don't have acces to a cab to compare, and furthermore as time goes a cab may have some color fadding, glitches and so on...)

I upload the art when I think they are good enough.

just a note when you'll upload the roadblaster side art, mark as comment that it's a "fake" one. (if you don't want TurboC crying  ;D ;D)

keep in mind that with all the effort we put inn tracing and beeing as accurate as possible that we are making some mistakes in size, color.

side note, I remember an allroy1975 that was reluctant to give a try to illustrator, nice to see you've been converted and became adict  ;) ;)

That's kinda what I was thinking.

For the record I really do agree with TurboC.  Maybe he wasn't polite about it and certainly his "Subject" line was harsh, but I think if you're going to upload that stuff, it should be VERY VERY acurate.  to the point where you have to look REALLY hard to find a difference.  I think (like you said) I need to point out that the RoadBlasters is Fake.  The Pac-Man one TurboC was commenting on, should have said "incomplete" or "not exact" or something.

I (obviously) understand the ammount of time vectorizers put into their work.  The reason we share is so others don't have to that same work and it's kind of doing a dis-service to put something up there that's not complete or VERY close to perfect without noting it in the documentation.

That's why I was asking.  thanks for the verification.  :)

NO question, I have the bug.  It's fun.  :D

The funny thing about that thread is that until I read that thread I never noticed the Pac art was "off."

Soooo... getting back to your original question... When it's done, I'd upload it to the library. If it's not 100% accurate or in the Roadblasters case, "original," mark it as such. Or put it in the section that deals with non original arcade artwork.

And... Upload! :)

I wouldn't think too many people did.  Again, he dind't put it lightly enough, but I'm kinda glad someone pointed out that the work in the library isn't necessarily 100% accurate.

due to the process involved it CAN'T be, close to but not 100%

Well, I didn't mean 100% exactly, but you don't really expect big things to be missing.  I expect like 99% accuracy.  ;)

I've seen that stuff before, those pictures are so high res (for the most part) I don't feel like cleaning them up or vectorizing them.  I think thye'll look fine the way they are.
don't you?

Nice selection! I'd never seen those before. I know at least one will help a friend with a busted IJ plastic. :)

I agree though, Those are nice enough that there's no need to vectorise them. But that's just my opinion as an AI newbie. Too bad they don't have the speaker frame/DMD plastics though. I can't find high res images of those anywhere.

yea.
I just pointed to some materil that may be helpfull for pinball fans.
and regarding the quality as you mentioned, it does not have interest to vectorise such good quality stuff.
