Is Soul Calibur playable with MAME?
<< < (4/7) > >>
Impactor:
it was changed to Hero turtles as kids in new york had been going into the sewers to find turtles and act like Ninjas (or thats what kids thought ninjas did) - the Uk decided to dump the term Ninja to protect thier kids. it was by no means 'illegal' tho to use the word. I dont belive any word is 'illegal' in the UK

Also more trivia - the foot soilders in the film were real ppl. now the cartoon couldnt have the turtles killing real ppl so they changed all the foot into androids!

First off, if your excuse is legit (and I'm not saying it isn't)  that doesn't make any sense.  How does changing the word ninja to hero change the fact that they live in the sewers? Also why would the actions of New York children influence the British goverment?  If I know one thing about the U.K.  they write us yankees off as hoodlums and promptly ignore us anyway.

Actually you've got it backwards.  The cartoon came waaaay before the movies.  The only reason they didn't use robot foot in the movie was because it would be too expensive and it wouldn't drive the "corrupted youth" plot.  Now the modern cartoons are based on the movies and those use actual people as foot.  But the turtles never kill anybody, they just beat them up, so it doesn't matter.

One word: censors.  Nobody understands these people.  These are the same people who deemed GTA: San Andreas illegal for sale in Australia after the "Hot Coffee" hack appeared.  Because somehow having sex was more of a crime than shooting a cop in the face.  Bizzare.

Yes, the "Ninja/Hero" thing in the UK was true.  Again, stupid censors thinking that because of the rediculous actions of one or two people in the entire world, that somehow changing a single word in the title of a cartoon/game will stop violence and stupidity everywhere.  Capital "W" for "What ever".

I guess that's what happens when the board of censorship in a country are all 30 years older than the median age group for the nation they represent, and hand-picked by a single overly-conservative fella instead of being voted in like they should.  But enough of my political ramblings...

Moving right along...

I have Soul Edge on PSX, and Soul Calibur on Dreamcast.  Both are excellent ports with surprisingly quick load times (Namco fighters seem to load SO QUICK it's not funny).  I've just recently bought a VGA box for my DC, and am enjoying Soul Calibur all over again on my 21" PC CRT monitor in full VGA res.  Gorgeous!

I think you have got this backwards...the UK seems to copy everything the US does actually.  Whether right or wrong...

To get back on point,

Soul Calibur uses the Namco System 12 board which is identical to Tekken 3, and is not a Naomi game.

Soul Calibur2 runs on Namco's SYSTEM 246 hardware.

Soul Calibur is partially emulated in MAME and runs, though the geometry is off and its impossible to play with any accuracy.
