CPS3 Cd Drive Replacement!
(1/1)
jshum9999:
Hey everyone,
I just got my CPS3 game in the mail today, and the cd drive was screwed up.
Does anyone know if I can replace the cd drive with any old cd drive?
Also is it just scsi or scsi wide?
I don't know the difference.

haha...scsi is so old, I dunno where I'm gonna find a cd drive.

Thanks

What does the connector look like on the back of the drive?

The standard SCSI connector was a 50 pin version of an IDE (standard Hard Drive) connector.

The Wide-SCSI connectors I used to use a shaped connector sort of late a parallel or serial cable only the pins are much thinner.

Last I checked SCSI was still in common use, albeit not at the home user level.

Grab a cheap one and try.

the cps3 faq says:

1.04: Can I change the CD-Rom?
A: Yes you can. On most CPS-3 it is a Panasonic 6x CD-Rom unit, model number CR-504. But another one makes no difference. Just buy a standard SCSI CD-Rom drive unit and set jumpers on the back properly. . Note: If you have to mount the game vertically be sure to to get a CD-Rom with clips to lock the CD inside the tray. Newer units dont have this feature.

Thanks for the help.
Now here's my second question.
How do I mount both the cps3 board and the cd drive in my machine at the same time?
I'm using a konami windy, and there's absolutely not enough room to mount both on the wood panel.

Thanks
