Depends a lot on the bike. My '92 Nighthawk costs all of $150 a year for full coverage, where my '01 ZRX1200R costs $800 a year for the same.

Yep, unlike cars the class of a bike doesn;tmake a difference to insurance companies, it's engine size.

True. But bikes with bigger engines are normally higher up in the purchase price so you are insuring something of greater value.

Everything worth owning these days is four stroke. Power delivery is much smoother, easier to ride hard and with less chance of high siding etc.

With the exception of some of the little sports 125's and 250's.

Agreed. The H1 & H2 had a wicked power curve and a willowly frame. The combination put the fear of God in more than a few riders, and earned the bike a rep as a widowmaker. Toss in insurance agents outright refusing to cover them, and a legend was born. ;)

Yeah.... I got my insurance.

$860 for liability and theft with a $500 deductable.

I am very happy about this.  It could have been a lot worse.

Good thing I'm an engineer.  Partly cause I got a group rate with my insurance company (Meloche Monnex) and partly cause we're smarter than everybody else.    ;D

Is that for the '77 Honda?  Why would you pay insurance that costs more than the bike?

$500 deductable should cover the cost of the bike, even in canadian dollars.  I know it is in good condition but it's still an almost 30 year old bike and only 400cc.  (I'm assuming canada, that insurance company is a canadian company.)

Is it law in Canada that you have to have insurance in order to drive?  Then I can understand that you are forced to do that.  But then you gotta ask is the bike worth it or get something newer.

The bike was appraised between $2,000 and $2,500.

I am required by law to have basic liability.  I was quoted $760 for this.

I decided to get the theft added for an additional $100 a year.

Yeah... Canada sucks pretty bad for insurance.  Plus I live in the city, which doesn't help.  But as far as canadian insurance, and me being a new motorcycle rider, I did really good.

Cool, thats all that matters. I remember my first bike, a Suzuki GS 500, that was alot of fun. I'm lookin for an old Honda CB350 to make a retro cafe bike as we speak.

donk is short for 'donkey'. as in some sort of motive power. aussies tend to be self -effacing in their euphemisms...

for some cool z1000 action you have to check out the aussie movie 'Stone' which is about a bikie gang who rides z1000's. all the actors rode their bikes, all the time so it looks pretty cool...

I am hanging-out badly to take one of these for a test run. Roughly the same price as a Japanese sports so they are affordable.

i test rode a buell a few years ago. how tall are you? they look goofy tall like some kinda freaky trial bike but are actually a bit small feeling for me (im 182cm, or 6' 1") . ran ok at 200km/h but when i slowed down the fuel injection played up. very disappointing. gear box was surprisingly smooth though.

I am a short ass, about 5-1/2 foot. I read the Buell's really struggle in Australia with the legal pipes and putting an aftermarket pipe on, although illegal, gets them running a lot smoother. Strange what you say about the gearbox, I heard they had a real clunker!

They used to, but the new gear box, from what I read, is supposed to be sweet shifting. Buell has gone through some huge changes since that first bike back in 96.

Wow, is it appraised like that because it is over 25 years old?

The CB400F is a classic.  And it's in good shape.  I've been looking for a while and it seems like $2k is about the asking price.

Better not spend an arm and a leg on the bike, since you'll end up losing at least one of them in your first accident anyway.   ;D
