Nope, doesn't really sound intuitive at all... I totally agree on that one.  I only remember cuz the local arcade near me had one for quite a while.

In MAME No, on the real thing Yes.

Could you map a third button to be jump if you felt it would respond better ?  If so, tell me how do I set it  in the "Input This Game" option menu.

Yeah.
Lets map P1 Button 1 and Button 2 to the same key.
Like button 1 could be ctrl AND r
Button 2 could be alt AND r
Then have an arcade button push r.
