Chrome/Vinyl Gaming Stools - Happ? Others?
« on: December 30, 2002, 04:50:16 pm »
Well, my cab is nearing completion and I'm looking to get a couple of 29-30" stools for the game room. Searching online has turned up some really overpriced options - $70-100 each? give me a break ;)

Happ's got their gaming stools on sale right now for $40 a piece which seems a bit more reasonable. I've also seen some "Z" style stools for about $100/pair. I definitely want to stay away from the shiny, plastic-looking vinyl that I've seen on some stools.

So, what do YOU have in front of your cab? Likes/Dislikes? Any feedback on the Happ stools or others will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

I went to a furniture warehouse and asked for "diner-style" stools.  They were $75 a piece.  Similar stools at a billiards store were $150 each, so I thought this was a decent deal.  They're also a bit nicer looking in a home environment than the standard Happ arcade stools.

One thing to look for is whether the frames are welded or not.  If they're bolted together, you'll want some Locktite to hold the bolts in place, or they'll end up going wobbly...

Here's a pair of similar ones on eBay for 66.00 shipped. Don't know what quality they are but the price is right.

I bought one from Eurway.  They have stores in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, but I ordered mine online for $50.

I just bought 2 of the Happs $40 jobs, and they are great. Nice and sturdy, and almost a "leathery" feel to them - not a "slick" vinyl feel at all. And they aren't shiny - more of a matte look (like leather) Also, the material wraps around the whole seat, instead of chrome around the vertical area of the seat.

They bolt together, but the thing almost stood there by sheer friction when I put the two rings onto the legs. Screwed down tight and they're as solid as a rock. Good cusion, could be a bit more cushy, but actually that's being picky.

I'll try and post a pic soon.

For $40, they can't be beat.

I went to Walmart and got 2 stools for like 20 clams each.  Came with some pretty good covers and all.  Really comfy and a hell of a lot cheaper.  I couldn't justify spending money on stools...I am a struggling college kid as is.

Wow, the Happs deal looks really awesome...  I'm goin' for it...  Thanks for the heads up!  I've been needing a coupla stools, I just didn't know where to look.  It seemed like something that could get really expensive if you look in the wrong place.

Yeah, I've seen average looking barstools in some furniture stores for $150 each and more. Nothing special about them, just expensive. Or maybe they'll negotiate down to a cheap, cheap rate of $100! ;)

I got a couple of chrome and red leather very nice bar stools at a local billiards supply store, about US$60 each.

Last time I was wandering through the automotive area of Wal-Mart, they had a "shop stool,"  chrome with a black padded vinyl (or some shiny plastic anyway), for $35.

I have one stool that I got at Wal-Mart for 35 and while it's very sturdy, I'd have to say that it's the ugliest stool I've ever seen.  It has drawings of a car, a motorcycle, and a truck on top.  I guess it was made for mechanics.  I have another stool that's a Z style that I found at Big Lots for $19.99.  It's kinda wobbly but if you don't lean back in it, it's great.

I had 2 of them shipped, along with several other parts, and the S&H was $36. They always seem to be high... but of course it also included a big ole' container for the Marquee retainer and t-molding.

I have two stools with seats simular to those in the pic(but I think mine is of a higher quality). Also the center posts have these big (plastic) budweiser beer bottles around them. Everyone thinks the bottles are pretty cool, but I think I'll take them off anyway.

I got the stools through the want adds.($50)

I was quoted $17 for the shipping of two of the Happ Gaming Stools to Kansas (from IL?).

Not sure of the cost, but if you want a small stool with adjustable height, I'd check out what drum stools are available, not sure if you'll find one that suits your need but it's worth looking into.

I have the Happs and love em.   Buy them on sale - with shipping to FL, a pair ran me around $120.   very solid, though, and nice looking and comfy.

In regards to size, most stools available will be 29-31" tall.  This is fine for a standard sized cab, but if yours is considerably taller or shorter you may have to adjust.

Drums stools can be very cheap and tend to take a beating well. They may not be traditional but some are really comfy.

Where are these $40 Happ stools?  I can only find 'Heavy Duty Game Stools' which seem to be $61.25.  Were they on sale or something?

They were on sale last month.   Looks like they are no longer... they would be listed under the "Specials" tab.

Ive got 2 Happs stools and love them except for one thing.  They 'rock'.  Not on carpet, but on linoleum.  I've tried fixing them, but it still happens.  oh well...just makes the reproduction of the arcade all the more real.

or it could just be that my floor is the one causing the problem.   :o
