I have this happy meal toy (I think it was from Sonic) that with a single LED projects a scorpion shape on the wall.  It should be pretty easy to make a bat signal in a similar fashion.

Very nice!!  What FE are you using?  Also, red translucent buttons would look cool.  Check out FXButtons..com. I can give help on lighting them if you go that route.

I use 3-D Arcade front end.

Thanks for all the great complements.  I hope this cabinet gives people some ideas or gets them motivated to continue or start building their own.  It was a fun project, and more fun to play.

Is the 3-D front-end you're using that of Wayne Manor, The Bat Cave, or Gotham?.... ;D

I took a closeup look at the scorpion toy and without taking it apart I have determined that it consists of the following.

LED > Scorpion-shaped mask > small projection lens

It's be easy to make a super-compact bat signal.  The key is that little projection lens.  It's probably no bigger than a quarter inch diameter.

Not sure how they did it, but someone home grew one out of a laser pointer and it looks pretty good.  It is nice and small and can probably be triggered pretty easily.

I think the suggestion made earlier about routing out a "bat signal" in the top of the cab (maybe just above the "flame light") would be really sick! Have it backlit and viols! You'd have an awesome bat signal above your cab. JUSt thinking about it makes me think about how I can do something to my VersuS" cab.

That must be done

Just wanted to voice my love of this cabinet.

Oh, and while not Bat-cade 2, I am thinking about going for a comic theme myself.  :)

i guess "participating" means posting mundane replies to as many subjects as possible all across the boards... ::)

It also involves a spastic avatar.

How's your "helping of others" coming along sparky?  Or were you just posting another "mundane" reply?

Do be so kind as to avoid reading anything I post, since they're just "mundane" replies.  Others would surely disagree with you, but you're teh kewl kid who clearly wouldn't know irony if it ---smurfette----slapped you in the back of the head, so you must be right.

uh..I think drew has a point. This topic was originally created on August 03, 2005..almost a year old. Your cabinet isnt some extraordinary mumbo jumpo that you have to bump the thread every 2-3 months. Any one of us here can easily build somthing like that(we can do it better!)

I guess I am going to be the only one here who disagrees.

I love the back of the cabinet, the wing shape pulled from the Tim Burton Batmobile, and the flame.  I like the limited use of Jim Lee's art, but I feel like you have this monster black cabinet, why aren't you covering it more in Jim Lee, or other defining Batman artwork?  Cost?  Seems like a ton of wasted space.  Like it is the beginning of a great idea that needs about $200 worth of additional artwork to make it sing.  I also like the idea of some sort of Bat symbol, whether it is the newer one or not, or whether or not it was the suggestion implementation here...

The Marvel Arcade does have some cool artwork and theme.  I like the marque and control panel.  But you are right you need to start building.  Keep up the great work so we can see it finished.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's because his cab is now 3 (THREE! :o ) years old, and that it's what many would consider "done" :laugh2:

Playing Devils advocate here, but, Wouldn't the BYOAC community be doing the same, My self included with this post, be bumping his post by making the dumb comments to not bump his post?

I like the cab, I understand the don't bump posts, But since this is a dead topic, instead of making comments like our work is better then yours and we can do better, as an admin shouldn't you just lock the topic?
