It sounds like this:

Now I'm very angry that I stopped myself from making a post like this.

Damn you stingray for taking my joke!! :)

I really recommend a Porter Cable if you can afford it.

Dervacumen:
For general use, the Ryobi will be fine, but the DeWalt or Porter Cable are better over the long run.  Make sure you get a plunge router with 1/2" and 1/4" collets and some type of dust collection system because routers throw a LOT of debris around.

I have a DeWalt 1/2" plunge router and a Porter Cable laminate trimmer (like a miniature hand held router) and have no complaints.  Both DeWalt and Porter Cable are frequently used in very high production manufacturing environments, have a longer life and a lower maintenance/repair cost.

(Experience from a previous life).

Your most important purchase is going to be good router bits, regardless of the machine.  Better off to skimp on the price of the router and buy high quality router bits.

AceTKK:
I just bought a used Porter Cable 690 for ~$70 off of e-bay.  This model doesn't have the plunge base included, but I can always buy it seperately later on.  Supposedly these are real nice basic machines and they're rated very highly on Amazon.com.

That Ryobi set should be good too, but if you're looking to save some $ a used Porter Cable is not a bad choice.
