Is Ebay really changing PayPal rules?

They're just charging you for convenience. You don't have to do it their way. It's not like they're saying all Ebay users must have Premier PayPal accounts. Granted, I doubt I'll ever bid on an item ever again that doesn't offer PayPal as payment method. I've been burned twice for NOT using PayPal.

The fact remains that buyers trust PayPal and it lets sellers receive their money in a fraction of the time.

I don't sell much on Ebay, but I personally am not bothered by the charge. By my estimations, it's probably going to cost me a few bucks over the course of the rest of my life. I can live with that. It'll save me a trip to the bank to cash a money order that took a week to reach me through the mail.

I'm a bigger cheapskate than most people in here, but I don't mind paying a little extra for big conveniences. What's PayPal's take on something I sell for $20? I bet it's something around 75 cents. I'd rather pay someone else 75 cents to deposit that $20 into my bank account for me.

I totally agree.  My time is worth far more than what Paypal fees currently cost.  Money orders are such a pain to deal with.

unclet:

Paypal would charge you $0.88 on a $20 payment (which is 2.9% + $0.30 of $20)

Anyway, I think I will keep my Personal PayPal account and simply state that I so accept online payments and the buyer can contact me to determine what those will be.

In the PayPal Terms it states that each individual person is allowed to have both a personal account and a premium account.
