DOSCab/WinCab Progress
« on: July 16, 2005, 04:49:34 pm »
I'm splitting this message out from the thread on DOSCab monitor support since it may be of interest to DOSCab/WinCab users...

Right now I'm trying to finish up my To-Do list of previous requests, then tackle the touchscreen issues, with an eye toward releasing an update sometime this week.

If the touchscreen works in DOS, what are the chances the touchscreen would work in DOS based win98?

Looking forward to the updates!

Probably none.  Besides, running the DOS version in Win98 doesn't work very well; usually the song playback is slower than normal.

I've just added a shutdown feature, so the juke can be configured to shut down windows.  This should make it possible to run the jukebox as a shell, although I haven't tested it.  The way it works is you have to both set SystemShutdownEnabled=True and exit the jukebox either through the new BTN_SHUTDOWN or by closing the window or pressing the power button to request a shutdown.  Exiting via BTN_EXIT will not shut down the system even if SystemShutdownEnabled is enabled.

Is pulling artwork out of mp3 on the horizion, or should we start looking for a program to do that for us?

It's not something I've really looked into.  Theoretically, it's easy; once I have a song loaded, the tag gives me a pointer and size to the embedded image data, and if it's a JPG or BMP, I just point to it and display it.  However, I need access to the image when the song is not loaded, meaning I'd have to go through and extract all of the images to disk during the indexing phase, which sort of screws up the point of embedding the images in the file in the first place.

This may be something that happens in the future; but it's not on my short-term To-Do list; thus, if this is a feature that you need, it's probably good to look into an external utility do do it for now. Sorry about that!

If you were going to add the feature next week, I wasn't going to bother extracting the images.   http://mp3imagetagextr.sourceforge.net/ is available to do it if anyone needs to extract them, I just hate to junk up my folders with jpg files.

Yes.  (CD4-1 isn't really "4 in 1", it's "4 CD's, style 1", and the new version has a CD4-2 and a CD4-3.  CD4-2 puts the song titles below the album art like Silverjuke, and CD4-3 uses a much smaller control panel and puts the song header above the album art rather than above the songs, which works better for lower resolutions.)

I apologize to everyone for the lack of a release.  I'm really close, but I've just been too swamped to get over the final humps.  My working version always has all kinds of test settings and such in the skins and config files, and those all have to be scrubbed before I can put out the release, new messages need to be documented, combinations of resolutions and rotations need to be tested, etc.

Right now, I have one working page change animation (the titlestrips or CDs slide left or right when the pages change), so that may be enough to call it done, as the other animations require scaling and lighting changes to simulate 3D movements and those will take longer.  I had absolutely no time this weekend to work on it.  I'll try to get things finished this week, although I know I said that last week and the week before...

Thank you all for your patience and support.

Okay, I'm going to call it done with the one animation in it.

Hi Chris,

Just downloaded Beta 8 and tried cd6-1-ws skin. Looks great! No problem with Greatest Hits any more. I like the way you handled that. All I have to do now is to copy my images into the directories so the CD images show up.

Cheers.

This might not be in the right thread - but -

Is there a way to make the "coming up next" scroll through the list of songs? (Like in AJ8).

After hovering around these forums long enough I am currently building my first cabinet and still testing what software to use.

Cheers

Hi Chris:
Is it possible to load all my music onto a dvd or multi dvd's along with the cover art in the proper categories and point the program to run it from the dvd drive rather than off the hard drive? I tried your program a  long time ago. It was cool.
I have to dig out one of my old machines that has pure dos on it and try your program out since all the changes. Hey thanks, any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
