Best way to laminate sides of control panel

Do you think that the self-stick stuff at Parts Express will stick to particle board?

You are right that it would be a lot easier if it works.  I could assemble the bottom and sides and wrap this around the sides without having to worry about messing up the laminate doing my mitre cuts....

Too bad I wasn't thinking about this the other day because I just ordered some small parts from Part Express (like $4 worth) and got hit with almost $7 in shipping.  I could have saved a few bucks, oh well.

If anyone knows the answer to my question about sticking to particle board, that would be great.  My goal is more of a "no seams" or at least "nice seams" more than it is anything to do with it being rounded.

Thanks!

I've got both the Parts Express vinyl and the Happ Pica vinyl here. I would recommend the Happ for your raw particle board, the adhesive is stronger. It's a better product all around, but also more expensive.

In either case if you seal the wood first with a primer you will get a much better bond.

I've actually done this on a couple of my CP boxes and they look great. Tough as nails and seamless. Laminating all those pieces would be a PITA and it's not going to look as good as the vinyl.

Which of the Parts Express black vinyl is gonna look most like black smooth laminate?

I see "wood grain" looking black and "textured" black but....

The Pica Vinyl looks great and sounds like many people have had great successes with it.  I only need like 7" x 10 feet to wrap the sides of the CP, but that would cost me $50 plus shipping (since it is sold in 40" and 49" wide rolls at $5 a foot)...  I would have enough for 6 or 7 CP sides with 10 feet of it.

I am going to post a note on the buy sell trade forum to see if anyone has any of this stuff.

I checked Happ's current flyer http://www.happcontrols.com/monthlyspec/v705.pdf, and the stuff is selling for $2.18 a foot for the 40" wide and $2.30 a foot for the 49" wide...

I think I need to give them a call.

CORRECTION:

That special price in their flyer is for the whole 150 foot roll!

YIKES!  I don't need THAT much...
