It would help if you posted a picture of the remote and point out the part you want to solder.
If the remote uses a potentiometer to control volume, you could extended it or replace it with a pot of equal value.

I have just done this - I removed the volume pot from my amplified speakers and extended it so I could mount it just inside my coin door.  It works fine, except the speakers seem to have some 'buzz' which I never noticed before - it's quite loud at high volume, although you can only hear it when no audio is coming from the speakers.

Any ideas what might cause this buzz?  I wondered if it could be the cable I used (just regular stranded cable).

Minwah,

If your marquee is flourescent, try turning it off and see if the buzz goes away. That was (and still is :-[) a problem for my cabinet, and the volume pot is quite close to the light fixture on mine.

I have the same speaker setup. I actually ran the volume control out the bottom of the marquee and velcroed it to the right of my speakers at the slant. It works great since the volume control is right within arms reach and it doesn't look bad at all.
