Alternate graphics for "windows loading" screen?
« on: June 16, 2005, 08:52:56 am »
Is there a place where i can download more arcade 'themed' screens/graphics to replace the 'windows loading' screen??  Trying to find something maybe pac-man related?

Also, is does anyone have a soundbite of pacman dying that i could add to use for the closing windows noise?

If you have the game, and a machine running some recorder software (a free accessory for windows), you can easily record off the "loopback" sound device to get exactly the sound bite you want.

I did this to have a classic Galaga sound bite on my machine's boot-up.  Sweet.

Personally, I just hide the whole thing.

However there is a solution for loading a different graphic. But I discourage against this (since you can easily corrupt your machine so that it won't turn on anymore):

Boot XP
Style XP

Also check this out. Read the entry about "Getting a Front-end to run as a shell in XP and start with no user intervention".

Yes. Basically it boils down to Haze said that even an open source networking client (for windows - there's already one in xmame) would be against the old MAME license; which implied I was breaking the forum rules. So I got banned.

As I said before, the irony is that the new MAME license specifically allows an open source networking client. And since then Insane has been given the ok to even use the MAME trademark for his Windows Networked client, called "NetMAME". I haven't checked, but I doubt my ban has been lifted. ;)
