Some help with my first cabinet

you wont be able to hack the analog controls for the N64. I think Happ sells an analog joystick that you might be able to adapt with a lot of work, but they are like $200 A PIECE!!.
Basically.. you can hack the d-pad and buttons on the N64 joy with little problems and play any games that use those controls. I forget if Mario Kart can use the D-Pad, but even if it does, it's not the way to play the game. sorry.

what if i took one of those arcade controllers for n64 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3580&item=8197653957&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW could i just use the joystick and then change the buttons to whatever i want

That thing is just a gamepad with a joystick popping up on it, no more useful than a stock controller for your purposes.

yup, my thoughts exactly. You'd still need to hack it somehow... the fact that it has a bigger joystick shaft means nothing for you.
Not to be a harbinger of doom, but a lot of people have thought about hacking analog controls around here, and it just seems like there isn't a great way to do it just yet. That's not to say you shouldn't try it... go right ahead, but from what I've read it's going to either be A)" impossible" B) way too complicated to be worth it, or C) way too expensive to be worth it.

Ok i guess i'll just keep the regular controls and use it like normal one more question why is it considered "hacking the control" when all your really doing is running wires from one solder point to a button
