$500 for Marvel vs. Capcom cab?
« on: June 02, 2005, 12:43:24 am »
I am looking to buy my first cab and locally I can't find any good deals. The cab of most interest to me that I've found is being offered to me for $500 and since it's local I can pick it up myself to avoid shipping charges. The cab itself is missing the marquee and side panel graphics and the t-moulding looks like it needs to be replaced. The cab is pretty dirty also, so it will need a good cleaning. The game works fine as does the 25" moniter. Is this cab a good deal? The guy told me he was going to fix it up and sell it for around $1000 but if I buy it now as is, he'll sell it for $500. Thanks in advance for your input.

Dont even think about buying that! Your first cab you get should be a project cab, something that wont run you more than $50-100, free even. Please dont spend that money on that MvC conversion cab.   :police:

That is what I call a RIP OFF.

There isn't a fighter cab on earth worth $1000. The machine you described would probably bring $200-$300 at auction, exact price depending on size and condition of monitor.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitly stay away then. I've been looking for a cheap project cab for a few months now with no luck. Our local vendors will rather destroy an old cab rather than donate or sell it for cheap. Do any of you guys have suggestions on where I can find one? I'm willing to travel 200 miles to pick it up. I'm in Albuquerque, NM so any cab in or around NM, AZ, CO, or western TX could be worth the trip to me. Thanks again for the comments!

Jared

I hate A-hole like this....They rather chop/destroy a cab while someone is willing to pick it up and give some $$ for it......That happened to, I hated that guy so bad that I wanted to go in his location of VIDEO games and just do something stupid to his machine, but I did not want to sink into his level, but after so many months, his place jsut DIED and close DOWN....maybe he did not know how to do business, hence he destroy rather than sell.....GOOD FOR YOU......

Enough of my ranting...anyway, just hang in there, there will be a cab for $25.00 or $50.00 you can grab...

Forget vendors, get your cabinets from collectors, ask on RGVAC if anyone has any cheap project games (complete or not) in the area.

Would the cab be worth it as a dedicated MvC? I'd have to find some replacement parts of course... (marquee, lights, side art).

Also, I've posted to RGVAC asking for local cabs with no success...

why would u want a single game machine when u can use a computer and get mvc + over 5k more games for nearly 400$?

Single games would be for most played games such as street fighter 3: 3rd strike, marvel vs capcom 2 and guilty gear XX # reload.

If you like mvc by it's self... i guess so? but i seriously think i would rather spend an extra 100$ anyway to get it to have over 4k more games...

I was thinking of building a cabaret mini cab as a MAME machine to play my favorite classics such as asteroids, donkey kong and mario. For the MAME I'll be using some pretty old hardware so it will be dedicated only for the older games that the old computer supports. I also wanted to get a full size dedicated cab and buy some newer games that all use the same board; I want to get a JAMMA or something where I just plug in a cartridge to swap games.

This happened to me too. I bought a KI machine for $600 (which was actually a deal at the time because it was 100% perfect.)

When I went back to buy a KI2 board for it, thyough, the dude wanted $300. He said that if he knew his partner was selling the KI in the first place, he never would have let it go for $600. He said he wouldn't have let it go for less than $1200. Either this dude was greedy or just retarded. I blew up on him, though.

if u want a dedicated cabinet.. i suggest using CPS2, CPS3 or naomi or atomisware

Dedicated 3rd strike machine = absolute ownage

I think the MvC machine is CPS2, but I also think that these boards were "suicide boards". I'm not sure if the cab that this guy is selling is suicide free or not. Anyway, I just found a guy in my area that has cabs and told me to call back in a week to see if he has any more. He told me he has to pay for storage and so he usually just pulls monitors and coin doors and then dumps the cabs. I told him I'd take them off his hands and he said if he has any, I could.

What about Tekken 5? Those are $6000+

Would you pay that much for it if you had the money to burn?

I would have saved enough money, and bought a Tekken 5 kit (about $3100) if it hadn't come out on PS2.

remember... it really doesn't cost all that much to build a cab...  Jamma is nice if you plan on going jpac + arcadeVGA route... But if you are using SVID or SVGA... after ripping everything out... you will probably find that the box is almost empty.

Building a cab is another option for me... Does anyone have any nice plans/dimentions for a nice 25" MAME and a smaller cabaret?

This site has plans for several machines. Have you checked them yet? Also, I've seen a set of plans for a Midway machine floating around. It's the cab used in games like NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, the MK's, and the KI's. It's my personal favorite.
