dirt:

i am building a new machine and i just contacted sharp image and they said they have 27" flat screen monitors for $375. that is a whole lot cheaper the the $455 i have been paying for the kortec regular tube monitors from betson. what i wanted to know is how do these flat screens look in a cabinet? the only flat screen monitor i have seen in a cabinet is the new golden tee and it looks cool, but i am afraid it might look a little weird playing the classics with the flat screen.
any comments/advise?

grueinthebox:

I'd pay the extra money.  If you're using an arcade monitor at all, you're presumably going for authenticity.  You're not going to get that with a flat screen.

AlanS17:

I can't speak from experience, but I bet it would only take a few minutes to get used to it. With that much of a price difference, there would be no question in my mind. If the image is the same, I don't think the curve matters much.

Veinman:

I would take image quality over authenticity any day, but that's me.

AlanS17:

I think authenticity is important, but I don't think you'll notice on a monitor of that size anyways.

How many classic games were played on a 27" monitor? I can't think of many. The size were be more of a factor than the curve. I say go with the flatscreen and save some money.
