| Yet another 49-Way question - how many do I need? |

OK, here is my question: I am interested in building a small 2 player cabinet (ie 2 joysticks total, not one for each player. I also know that this means 2 player smash TV is out) I am already sold on needing one 49-Way with a GP-Wiz 49, but for my second joystick, can I get away with a good standard 8-way stick, such as a P360 (I can get a used one cheaper than a 49-Way)? Are there any games where a single player needs two joysticks that are not both 8-way, or are there any games that are two player simultaneous where the two joysticks are not both 8-way? Still a noob, thanks for the help, specfire |

Karate Champ and Assault, but otherwise, I don't think so. The trick will be finding an 8-way stick that feels similar to the 49-way so when you play simultaneous games one player doesn't complain about using the "bad" stick - whichever one they think that is. |

I built a panel very similar to what you are talking about, although mine is 1 player only (or 2 player alternating). My first joystick is a 49-way and the second stick is a Wico Leafswitch 8-way. I designed it this way with Robotron in mind as I believe this is the best joystick for shooting with Robotron. Playing games like Crazy Climber where the two joysticks should feel the same works fine as even though the 2 joysticks feel different, they are not that terribly different as to affect gameplay. Having said this, I will probably replace the Wico with a 49-way at some point and build another panel with 4 Wicos for 2-player Smash TV. |

Thanks to both of you for the feedback. I think that I should probably just suck it up and pay the $120 (approx) for both sticks and both encoders. |
