Where to put 7th & 8th buttons?

Possible... I think I remember reading that the N64 uses the same controller protocol as NES & SNES, it just adds more buttons. If that's the case, and 6 buttons (plus start/select) & digital directions are all he needs, then this will do the trick.

I don't want to swap anything out, part of the idea of getting this was that I'd have (almost) everything I need already, and just need to change the interface. Looks like the sticks may be riveted in anyway (can't remember what it looks like from the inside, but the tops look like rivets).
So I'm either going to make do with 6 buttons, or go for something like the X-Arcade layout.
