Subject: Would order TV lightgun of you make it. :)

Just passing along my 2 cents. I currently use MAME with a TV as a monitor. (With svideo out being standard and the quality so good, a lot of us MAMErs are using them.

I would buy a TV lightgun from you in a second!

Sincerely,
Scott Szymczak

I hate to say I told you so guys, but I told you so.  I was really afraid this would happen.  You see the problem with marketing for MAME is that you can't.  The casual mame user probably does use only a vga monitor but what they don't understand is the casual mame user isn't who's buying their product.

Their major problem was they hung out at mameworld asking quesitons and didn't spend enough time here.  Let's face it, the mameworld guys (no offense)  just play mame on thier desktop pc's for the most part.  They also aren't always willing to buy an expensive controller where as we are.

So what did they do?  They built a stock pc lightgun with good mame support, expected it to sell well, and it didnt.  Unfortunately they didn't realize that that's not what the majority of us byoac's need.  And general sales for pc use is laughable as there really aren't any pc lightgun games anymore.

Anyway getting to the point.  I looked at the product examples the other day and about 60-80% (going by search)  had a tv in them.  About another 10-20% had arcade monitors or some other speciality monitor.   So although there are a lot of you, the number of people who have vga monitors and have actually been willing to spend enough time and money to build a full cabinet (proving you would be more prone to buy such a device.)  is small compared to those with a tv or arcade monitor who want one.

Long story short act-labs screwed up, but they've already lost a lot of money so they might not be willing to try to fix it.  :(

Why am I so sinical about it?
One of the act-labs representatives visited the chatroom a long time ago when they were back in the planning stage.  Even though all we asked about was the tv version he would swiftly change the subject back to the features a vga version would need.  I had a good feeling back then that they had very little intention of making a tv version at all.
SNAAAKE:
How about a gun with a switch between VGA and 15KHz arcade monitor/tv.

That way..tv people, arcade monitor people and vga dudes would buy the gun.

Whatever....jack the price up..SAY...$50 a pop.not bad deal if act labs can get things done correctly :).
Silverwind:
For what it's worth I sent an e-mail to them with my support for a TV version.
