HELP! marque problem >:(

okay i am using paint shop pro and i made a marque.i cant open the .PSP file.its too big.i was trying to make the best image possible and ended up making it so large that i cant open it.paint shop would freeze on me.i have a .JPG file too..a copy.now when i go to kinkos,do i bring that paint shop format or the .JPG format?

here is the picture property of the .JPG file

also is .JPG file good enough.after all i want this to look right.not all blocky and jaggy.anyone have any idea on this problem.please please post.i dont feel right about spending around $20 then print out a crappy looking marque.also what kind of paper do i ask for when i go to kinkos.anybody printed please post about this matter.what paper you used and which is the right paper.many thanks to anyone who helps

From your dimensions it looks like your marquee is about 1" high and 3" wide.  I would suggest making the image only 300 dpi.

you are right..it was 300 dpi at the first place..the size is 25x9...now which i bring to kinkos? .JPG or .PSP

When I had mine printed at Kinkos I brought in a jpeg file.

Also, I printed mine on backlit stock instead of paper.

This material is like a thin piece of opaque plastic that is designed to have a light behind it.

A bit pricey depending on size....I think I paid like $28.00 + tax for a marquee that was 27 x 8 but looks wonderful with a flourescent behind it with a single sheet (ie: no color fade). I sandwiched this between two pieces of lexan.

I would suggest that you take a piece of paper the size of what you are planning to print and do a test mount to ensure that the overlap of the marquee holder does not cover up the top/bottom edges of your marquee image. I did not think about the degree that this would overlap first time out of the shoot and ended up having to resize and reprint mine.

I took mine to Kinkos and had it printed on the Glossy
paper thats on a big spool. it cost $19

I downloaded the Kinkos file prep tool from their website and took my image to them in that format.

one thing make sure your graphic is sized so that they can do a propotional resize to maintain the aspect ratio.
IE I needed a 6" X 24" marquee so the graphic file I took them was 1.5" X 6" .  That way it looked exactly
Like I wanted it with out distorting it.

I don't think they will take the PSP file I would use the prep tool to be sure.

Hi,

I created a file from kinko's file prep tool and took it in on thursday.  For one, when they tried to open the file, it crashed their computer.  Thankfully I also had a JPG on the CD-R and she said that would be perfect.  Then she told me that the printer they needed to print my image on was out of order, so I have to go back in a couple of days and pick up my marquee.  I'm having two copies made, and the lady recommended that they print on their stock paper after I told her it was going to be backlit.  Hopefully it will turn out okay.  I already paid for it so if it sucks I guess I'm out 19 bucks.

Sorry, no site up yet....one of those many things I haven't been able to find the time to complete. I can take a digital pic and post that if you would like to see the finished product.

The Kinkos I frequent always has product being printed on this printer and material so I suspect you could see live samples of other items before you "go live".

Actually, the backlit material they print on will support two marquees of this size. If you play your cards right, they will print two copies side by side as the balance of the material is wasted anyway.

I was able to sweet talk this deal both times, sold the (3) copies I didn't need for $20 a pop (less than what someone could have a single of this size printed for) which made mine free.

Okay, one of my cats out of the bag. Your mileage may vary.

One last word of advice....

Do not touch the printed area with your fingers if at all possible...certainly not until it has set for a long time and completely dry. I used a lint free cloth to handle mine by the edges while trimming the excess material from the border using a straight edge (1x2 strip and a couple of clamps on each end ) and exacto knife.

The ink will have a tendency to suck the oil off your fingers and leave a smudge.

First time out of the shoot they screwed one up right off the printer by letting it touch together in one small spot. They gave me this scrap one to play with which helped me to learn what "not to do".

Trim, sandwich that puppy between some plexi or lexan, add light, mount, enjoy.

I mounted my marquee using Happs marquee mount material top/bottom and then used a vinyl wall board trim painted black to make two framing strips for left/right. This makes a nice snug frame left/right which allows no light to slip by.
