Laminate prices ( OUCH ! )
« on: April 15, 2005, 07:36:40 pm »
I have read alot about laminate on the board.

Mostly HOME DEPOT black laminate,

So i cruised over there today.

There was no black, But other colors White, Marble etc..

Then i looked up at the price.  $47.00  and  +

OUCH!  :o

Is this normally how much laminate runs?

Or is it just in my area?

Please tell me black is cheaper!   :)

You were problably looking at the large thick sheets of the stuff, or the kind which is already applied to press-board, right? If so, sounds about right. But you can buy it in stick-on rolls for much cheaper.
NO MORE!!

Nope this wasn't thick.  Not ultra thin,  But it was thin.

They even had a display up above the sheets, Showing how to apply it to a

countertop.

I saw the board kind you are describing though.

Thick like a countertop.

Didn't see any rolls of it ?

I didn't know you could get it in rolls.

I though laminate would be a little to thick to sell it in rolls ?

Laminate sheets roll up real easy.  (I used to make countertops)
What size sheets are they selling for $47+?

Ok, Back at another HOME DEPOT today.

Here's the scoop. I was looking at the right stuff.

I picked up a piece and it will roll up.

It is by WILSONART.

24 X 48 sheet = $12.90

48 X 96  sheet = $47.28

That is the only sizes they have,

That price is for every color.

They were out of black except for 1 sheet of  24 X 48

I do not have that store mentioned above in my area,

Damn wish i did though?  Seems like a good deal !

Compared to the prices im seeing in my town  (GREENVILLE SC.)

They must be shipping this stuff off to help build IRAQ back too!

Just like the all the wood.  Cause it's way higher than when the war started.

Plus figure in the high GAS prices now.

If these gas prices keep going up, We will be paying $5.00 for 1 tomato

in our grocery stores.  >:(

I personally think that Home Depot has a very limited number of choices for Laminate. I don't really want a black or white cabinet. ANd I really dislike marble looking cabinets. :(

But where else can you go?

Special order a color from HOME DEPOT or LOWE'S

or whomever?

But that is likely to cost you even more !

OUCH ! :o

But where else can you go?

Yellow Pages.  Call a countertop/cabinet shop, they *might* sell to you if you say you're building a desktop or something.  Otherwise call around and find out who they get it from.  Use the code #'s from Home Depot and order direct.

if you have Menards, they often have stuff on sale (unlike L/HD) and they have been running an "extra 11% off everything" coupon about every 6 weeks so far this year.  Menards carries Formica (it's a brand, not a product), Wilson Art and one other brand.

Well I know Formica definately has the colors that I want. I don't think Formica distributes to Home Depot though. Right now I'm trying to find someone close to me(Philadelphia Area) that has the colors I want.. (Or at least something other than what Home Depot has :( )... Depending on how far I have to go to get it. :)

Lowes carries the Formica brand.  They ordered a sheet for me.  Took about a week to receive it.
