Those darn buttons
« on: May 07, 2002, 03:13:49 pm »
I just got my IPAC-4, joysticks, and buttons.   I used a spare piece of plywood to try a generic layout to see if I liked the placement of the controllers.  Since the IPAC had wire hookups for 8 buttons, I laid out two rows of buttons, four on top and four on the bottom.  Everything worked great, but I began to realize that I was rarely using the fourth buttons with the games I tried.

I could see the need for the four buttons across when playing some neo-geo games, and having two rows of 3 buttons across for some of the fighting games that I play.  My problem is will I actually need to use the buttons that are mapped to "C" and "V" (I think those are the right keys).  I haven't come across any games that use these yet.  I wanted to find out if anyone knows of any games that need these buttons.

haven't tried myself with MAJONG games but i heard that you need 16 Buttons to play it...maybe thats the only one type of game that requires Player 1 and 2 buttons to combine to be as player 1.

1234

The only thing that would use 8 buttons are Playstation games or EA Sports games.  So if you plan on using you Mame cabinet to play PC games, you may want add the buttons.

Are you sure the information on that website is accurate? Most of the games listed are driving games. I don't see how a driving game could possibly need 8 buttons.

Also if you look up Defender(Red Label)it says the game requires an 8 way joystick and 6 buttons. I always thought defender used 5 buttons (fire, thrust, reverse, hyperspace, smartbomb), and a 2 way joystick.
