Dog thinks: "They feed me, clean up after me, and take care of me.... They must be gods!"

Cat thinks: "They feed me, clean up after me, and take care of me.... I must be a god!"

tommy:

Anybody have a good recipe for cat, i was just thinking fried with some BBQ sauce, theres so many ways to skin a cat.  :-X  :P  ;D

I'm interetested in the sociology here.  I'm surprised to find myself in a majorly male dominated hobby website, yet seeming to be in a majority coming down on the cat's side in the cat/dog debate.  Generally speaking, it seems like guys like dogs more.  They're a more "manly" pet to own.  But here that doesn't seem to be the case and, in fact, Tommy's pretty much had no support.

Is this a geek thing?  I know a disproportionate number of us are computer guys, which probably means there are a lot of geeks here.  Do geeks prefer cats?

Seriously, doesn't the proportion of cat-to-dog supporters in this thread seem unusually high for a discussion involving nearly all, if not all males?

I mean, not only ChadTower, but Dartful Dodger are on the same side as me in this thread.

Daniel270:

I think I'm more in the minority....

wife and I are hamster fanatics.... don't really know why.  Easy enough to clean, feed and occasionally pet and play with..... and vet bills are pretty non existant, since most, if properly taken care of, will live 2 - 4 years....

ChadTower:

The main fear is probably that people will kill any cat they see and can get away with, not just the uncollared cats.  People don't have much of a history of following rules once you give them the right to kill.
