| Went to an Arcade Tonight.....WoW! |

| PacManFan:
I just got back from a "business" trip to Vegas Sunday. I was staying at the Luxor hotel, and they have an Awesome arcade there. 2 levels, about 300+ machines, pinball, skeeball, all the old classics, plus plenty on newer gun games, driving games, etc. I played Galaga on a single quarter for about 1 - 1/2 hours and set the high score. (A quarter was about all I could afford after going to the craps table.) It's good to see the amusement industry is still alive and well in Vegas. -PMF |

Me and a few people are starting an arcade. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,34957.0.html And we have been actually looking into the making our own arcade titles. Something that will never hit consoles only available at the arcades. I think it may help resurect the arcades. The problem is consoles...and laziness. So if you make a killer game and only release it at the arcades then poof. they have to get off theyre butts and come to the arcade. |

I was being semi-serious. It's an idea I'd like to pursue, but realistically it does not make business sense. There is too much overhead, distribution hurdles, low profit margin, and post-sale customer service, compared to just selling the same game online as a download. ...?... |

Look how much people charge for mame cabs, then look at how much games cost at BMI! Even for the home users, this kind of things could make money! I'm not saying anyone should quit his day job for this, but this is feasible, even though some sacrifice has to be made at start... I am sure if someone (RandyT, Andy, GameCab, you know who i'm talking about) would organize something like this and get the ball rolling, we could do something here! |

My brother makes games for a hobby, and he actually is talking about making an arcade game. It would be a side-scolling shooter with 2 player co-op and bosses so big that they fill up 2/3 of the screen. It would be 100% compatable with Mame cabinets. You'd even press the 5 key to insert coins, and 1 would be the start button, so you could play it just like a Mame ROM. It sounds awesome, I can't wait till he starts on it. He's currently working on another game called "Chaos Gate". You may have heard of it, I don't know. It's looking pretty cool as well. If I tried to describe it though it'd probably take several pages since it combines so many genres. |
