LCD monitor in mame cabinet
xtremediver:
Just curious if anyone has tried a lcd monitor with the daphne emultor? I'm thinking of making a deditcated cabinet for the laser disc games and thought about an lcd monitor. I figure it would be ok with dragon's lair but not to sure how it will be with m.a.c.h.3 when it becomes available.

I call a toast to carbon displays! (flat panel CRT monitors) which are still currently in the development stages and should be out sometime this decade!

Daphne runs great on an LCD. I'm about 70% complete with my cabinet. As a result I get my emulation fix on my current home computer which runs a 17 inch Dell LCD.

Pixel response times are getting very fast (they are now down to 4ms), viewing angles of 170 or more, outstanding brightness and contrast, and the edges are getting smaller and smaller. Take this 40" Samsung 403TN for example:
(1280 x 768, brightness of 500cd/m2, 600:1 contrast ratio, 8ms response time).

Still fixed resolution. Fixed res sucks.

LCDs are taking over the small section of the AV market that plasma had. Because they're cheaper, not because the image is superior.
For image quality, there's no contest.
CRT is still the sharpest when analog input(conventional TV) or multiple resolutions(digital TV, PC gaming) comes into play, and has the best color reproduction and contrast ratio in all situations.

So here I am, holy crap, 9 years later, looking for 1600 x 1200, 21.3" LCDs to replace my aging 19" computer monitor. Wish me luck.
