Hi guys, Last fall I started on a project based on the Mameroom "UltimateArcade II" plans. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far before the snow started falling and things had to be postponed until the spring. Well, over the winter, my partner in crime (who had all the higher-valued tools, I might add) moved away. That leaves me in a bit of a bind. I do have a circ saw and jigsaw, but the mameroom plans call for some sneaky little miter cuts, as well as a lot of routing. To be honest, even my straight cuts aren't that great. Even with a guide on the circ. :) I'd love to go out and buy a nice high-end tablesaw that could do all of these cuts, but priorities seem to have shifted (Wedding in 3 weeks), so I'll be a little tight on cash for the remainder of this year. That being said, I was wondering if someone here who lived in Ottawa would be willing to help me out with the carpentry part of this project? I'm a computer-geek, and I'd love to work on all the electronic innards, but being as I'm not skilled with the wood, I just want to make the best with what I've got and learn a few things at the same time. :D Beer would be provided as needed, of course. Swing me a line if you're interested. Thanks, - FA |

Hi Effayy I live in Ottawa and I love beer! I don't own a tablesaw any more (apartment dweller) but I do have access to one at work. I have a router, jig saw etc. Here is an example of my carpentry skills. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,27612.0.html Do you have a garage or other good workspace? If so we could get together and work on both of our cabs. Congrats on the impending wedding. (edit) I forgot to mention I have a lot of extra black, silver and white t-molding if you're interested. Hiya! First of all, that is truly one awesome looking cocktail cab. I think it would even pass as "furniture" as far as the fiancee is concerned. hah! I do have a garage. I live in a newly built townhouse, and we all know how big the garages are in these puppies. It's even smaller now that I have a hand-me-down 25+ year old snowblower sitting in there. No worries, though. It's definately big enough to keep using it as a small workshop. I'd be happy to help you out with your cab as well. the more I can learn, the better. Eventually I plan on finishing the basement as well, and the more I can do myself without bringing in contractors, the more I save in the long run. An arcade cab as a carpentry lesson would eb a good start. :) Well ok, after the wedding I'll send you a PM with some info. I doubt I'll have time to work on anything before then, and it'll give the weather a chance to warm up a bit as well. Thanks a million for the offer. - FA |
