State of Steering wheels.

jelwell:

So I've done quite a bit of searching and a few things seem clear to me:
1) I need a 360 wheel - since the games I care about (in order) are: Super Sprint (360), Super Offroad (360), APB (360) and Spy Hunter (270).
2) No PC (logitech/MS/whatever) steering wheel is 360 degrees.
3) I want to support (at least) 2 player Super Sprint - and I'd prefer a fluid game play for both players & matching wheels.

I want to know 2 things now:
A) What's the *best* option? (Should I order 2 Happs 360s and an Optipac?)
B) What is the cheapest option? (Should I rummage up some steering wheels and hook them to a mouse or a spinner?)

Are any of my facts wrong? Is there *still* no PC 360 wheel?

360 wheels go really cheap on ebay, and most of them are very durable.
This makes used ones a much better deal than new ones.

Just look for ones that don't look beat to death and rusted, and you should be OK.

Chris:

Don't forget you'll need two sets of pedals as well.  I have noticed that PC wheel pedals are awful for playing standing up...

Are you building a driving game only cab?  If not, figuring out how to make your wheel coexist is a tricky wicket... and 360o arcade wheels are heavy, so a pair of them on a swappable panel is less than convenient.  I have a pair of Pole Position wheels and a PP shifter in the garage, and I've been wrestling with this problem for over a year...

no offense, but you might want to start going swappable panels soon.  thats one big frankenpanel.

as for swinging wheels, i don't think thats gonna happen.  don't forget that the wheel has a shaft that sticks out a ways, and then encoder stuff for the spinner like mechanism at the end.

as for pedals, unless your gonna use a chair, i think your outa luck if you want to attach them to the bottom of the cab like minwah.  your cab sticks too far off the floor with those casters.

bottom line, you gotta ease up on trying to play every game, unless you go swappable or modular.  and getting all the driving stuff you need is gonna cost alot of money, even from ebay.
