Yes the eReal games gun just uses a camera on top of you monitor/screen and has a gun with sensors/reflectors/leds - 1 at the front 1 at the back. Then calcualtes the position. you can get it for ps2/xbox. Reviews suggest its fine, not quite as accurate as some, and suffers from losing calibration if you change the guns position much (always a problem with just 1 sensor i think). If you have rear-projection/lcd or whatever its pretty much your only option. The 1 advantage it may have is that the company have suggested that the calculations are all done in the camera-box, which (if true)may solve all this hassle of image processing in drivers done by the home-brew webcam option. It is quite likely to make it to the pc as its already USB I believe. |

The eReal gun uses a camera to track a pair infrared leds on the gun. They must be pulsing one of the leds to send codes to the camera for the trigger pull, calibration and d-pad functions. A single tracking point would only allow for up/down left/right tracking with no way of calcluating the guns actual aiming point. Two tracking points allows for calculating the guns actual aiming point, but the calibration can be thrown off by moving the gun away from it's initial starting point. Three or more points allows for calculating the guns position relative to the camera as well as the aiming point. This means that calibration should not be affected by changing the position of the gun. |

andy from ultimarc said he's working on a lightgun himself too, and it sounds like he's pretty far. as for the ereal gun, it sounds like they need to do some recreation work to make it a bit better. as for act-lab, i'd have to second the comment about them being wankers. it seems like a company run by a bunch of backwards gamers, who create product runs for things they want, and sell the leftovers to the public to cover their costs. they really don't care about the customer, aka they don't care about making another good lightgun. anyways, the lightgun they have pulses the screen, which i find kind of annoying since we do have other options, like the tracking guns (ereal gun, etc..). |
