Aussie Cocktail Design WIP
« on: March 05, 2005, 01:53:44 am »
I've started my detailed design of an Aussie cocktail cabinet.  I am drawing it to scale and will be dimensioning it all for anyone who is interested in building one of these from scratch.  I'm building the cabinet in parallel with 3D design, and I have finished the legs and the bottom box.  Its based on 16mm MDF (except the legs which or steel tube), and all anglular cuts (ie, not 90 degrees) are 15 degrees to try and simplify the construction.

I'll post a couple of exploded views to give an idea of how it goes together.

I'll keep you posted and probably post the plans on my web site when finished.

Looks good :)

It's ATTACK OF THE AUSSIE COCKTAILS lately :P

I do wonder why you choosed to have 2 boxes on either side of the montior instead of making it 1 big box around it?

Still looks good altho i'm not sure how comfotable the controls will be

but then again some aussie cocktails like mine had the controls flat on the box which is ok for space infader but thats it  :-\

I only want it for Invaders, Galaxian, Galaga, etc, so the horizontal stick is fine for me (my current cocktail cabinet is the same).

I spent a long time looking over cabinets before finalising the design.  The main reason for the 2 side box design was to make the whole construction easier, but to try and keep a relatively authentic look.

It was based on a combination of a mates Taito's machine (thanks Carl) and this original Aussie cab http://www.aleax.com/personal/alias/arcade/finished.jpg which has the same two side style box design.

After looking at this thread, this is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! My friend wants a Galaga themed cabinet and I have been looking for one with this design because I did a Pac Man design first and having a vertical monitor for this one is great. I would probably want 2 player buttons and maybe a coin mech (chrome) on the side of P1. He is interested in the classics like Pac Man, Galaga, Invaders etc....

I look forward to seeing what other info about it you have about it. Btw, what size monitor would be for that cabinet? I have a couple of 15" ones lying around but I could get a cheap 17" if I had to.
I would likely be using VAntAGE and a 166MHz Pentium with this cabinet.

Great work on the drawup.
I love the life I lead. I wish I could afford it.

Thanks for the comments.

I'll keep posting as I make updates.  I should have the overall dimensional drawings finished next week.

Its designed around a 14" PC monitor (the monitor is drawn to scale in my drawings), but a 15" may fit, I don't think a 17" will.  The biggest problems in these cabs is finding room for the monitor & the monitor control board.  This board isn't shown in the design yet, but it will be.

Anyway, I could only find plastic bezels for 14" PC monitors (=13" arcade monitors).  I bought a few from Happs Controls when they were on special.

I wont be producing details constructions details, just a series of 3D CAD drawings and a few bullet points for each.  I see it as a guide only, for anyone interested to customise as they want.

I have a spare 14" so that's good.
