Cab collectors - How not to injure yourself?
RayB:
As I age, I notice my back can't take as much as it used to. Moving cabs to the basement is very difficult. I used to just thump it down one stair at a time on a small dolly. So I read up on what better dolly to use and everyone said to get one with stair belts. So I bought an appliance dolly.
The problem with this kind of dolly though is that first of all, it's heavy all by itself, so it's in effect adding about 40 lbs of weight to the job. Second, the stair belts basically create zero resitance! With a standard dolly, the wheels on each stair help stop the cab's movement down the stairs (thump thump thump!). Withthe stiar belts, the only resistance now is ME. I need to have the strength to hold the dolly and the cab from sliding down all the stairs!
So last time I moved a cab down, I didn't hurt my back, but I really felt I was pushing my limits.
What can I do to prevent injury? I know one step is removing the monitor. What else?
