Bikini Karate Babes - The review
« on: October 24, 2002, 11:16:01 pm »
Well, for my second PC software review, I finally got my hands on a copy of Bikini Karate Babes

http://www.bikinikaratebabes.com/

Well, its a spoof off of fighting games female characters.  As the years have moved along, the costumes continues to shrink.  The game is live action similar to MK.

Graphics.  Ingame, they aren't that bad.  There is some jerkiness between some moves, but all in all very smooth.  The backgrounds aren't anything special, but they aren't bad either.  I give it a solid 5.  One annoying part is a game that comes on 4 CDs, the static pictures between fights are dithered with bad colors.  I can't believe that they didn't have nice graphics between the fights.

Controls.  Down right the worst I've ever seen.  I would rather be playing MK emulated in Mame on a 386 computer without enough memory.  The problems are so bad its hard to know where to start.  1) I would press kick and consistently get a punch.  I don't know how they even managed that one.  2) Blocking took about 4 or 5 seconds to start.  3) You can't press a button when down (so no blocking when you get up... this comes up in GamePlay).  Last, the jumping and moving sucks... BTW, did I mention it sucks?

GamePlay.  Against the computer, its not 100% bad... but, well, its about 95% bad.  If you get knocked down, you might as well quit at higher levels... you will get knocked down again before you could punch, kick, or block.   But if you get the other down, you can kick thier asses.  So you find a decent combo and you can make it through a few screens.

Oh yeah, if you get turned around... I still haven't figured out how to turn myself back most of the time.  Sometimes I would be dead before I could start looking at the other.  This is just down right annoying, stupid, and well.... !@#'d up.  Nothing like almost winning, getting caught with a non-damage turning around move... and dying with a full bar because you can't do anything...

The only hope for the gameplay is it seems like it would be fun against a friend.   Not tested yet...

Setup.  It only runs at 640x480 (great for me).  You can config a few options.  Nothing big... Mainly for slow systems.

Now for the real question... Pron!  This is the one part that could have made the game a winner.  Well... after playing for half an hour... Not a single nipple...  I don't dought that you might see something with the hidden characters... but I'm starting to wonder.  All the moves shown in the mp3 download that look like you might see something... you don't.  You might be able to unlock it, but I can't imagine spending the time to do so.

So my final vote  :P :P :P :P :P

Well, if we could leave the bikinis out, I'd have enjoyed this thread much more  ;D

While speaking from pron - anyone could explain me the rules of these nice Mahjong-games with these friendly japanese ladies on it? I know how to play the typical Mahjong-games, but most of them seem to be more like blackjack ???

We should find someone that could translate the onscreen-text from japanese to english  ;D

what a disapointment...   you woulda been better off renting "Teenage Tit freaks" twice =)

I can see needing to do "secret moves" in order to enable "boobalities" or having to beat the game in bikini mode in order to enable the -removethong switch =P

But if the game play sucks... not even sucks, just cobbled together badly... then that's just wrong.   Deny me boobies if ye must mr. game developer but deny me not  game play.

4 cds?!?! that's crazy talk.  They must have used some half ass "game development" kit that was on clearance rack at the shop and save

Have you tried any directory browsing to see what's going on there? Maybe some full motion mpegs in an errant directory on disc 3 or something.... heh!!

I'd like to find the demo for ha-ha's for my cab, though...

Bikini Karate Babes remembers me of a old game, back in the early 90's, called Strip Fighter (even the logo looked like Street Fighter  ;D), I saw it on a gaming magazine, but I don't know if it ever saw the light of the day, like Capcom's Slipstream F1 game.
Looked promising at the time, I have to say  8) .

Haven't used it myself, but it's a start, at least.
