Mine has a metal control panel as well.

Going back to the door, rather than hammering it out, you may try just pushing it out from the inside. If it's nailed in with just a few short nails you may be able to push it out and not damage anything.

this is why, I'm going to paint the inside white, then cover the coin door hole with plexi, snap on a couple of blue neon lights!! to let the PC glow!! :D

I think i might just give that a try, or else i'll figure another way to paint the inside!!  :-\
