Is this cabinet rare?
« on: January 28, 2005, 08:38:26 pm »
Are these neo-geo cabinets rare? Its got a 6 slot board with metal slug. the owner wants $525 for it. Im not sure what size monitors in it. Anyone know?  I think the price is high I just want to know if I will be able to find one somewhere else cheaper.

Are you set on getting a NeoGeo cab?  If not, you can get another cab way cheaper.  I got a nice two player cab with a working 25" monitor for less than half that.  Not sure what the Neo Geo's go for, so I will let someone else answer that, but I'm guessing that is kinda high.  Offer him $200  ;D

it doesnt have to be a neo geo cabinet. This is just the first cabinet like this that Ive ever seen. I already have a 4 player 25" cab. I just saw this one and thought it would look great in my game room. Is this a original neo geo cab? Did anyone else make cabs similar to this one? Anyone know what size monitor they had?

I don't see it posted on HardMVS.com so I would be leery to write it off as an original Neo Geo cabinet.

anyone have any pics of a similar cabinet design? Theres no way Id pay $525 especially if its not a real neo geo cab. Maybe if I can get some more pics I can design and build my own.

I wonder if perhaps that is a cab which was damaged, and the owner cut off the top. It is weird to design a cabinet with no marquee...

One thing we've neglected to discuss in these "low-boy" threads is the glare/reflection you can get off the monitor/glass, since you don't have the traditional top part to block out reflections.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  Couldn't be too hard to chop one down and make it look exactly like that.  Or even scratch-build it.

I thought I saw something on RVGAC collecting about a Neo-Geo mini - A rather rare piece. $525 is a normal price for it.
Yeah, a search turned up. That is a legit Neo-Geo mini. Apparently they are highly sought after for their "cuteness" factor. If you bought it, and resold it on ebay, you might make a couple bucks, but nothing substantial. Do a google groups search for
(NeoGeo Mini -Marquees -marquee) and you will find threads talking about it.

if you're looking for a cabinet to mame, you should be able to find a normal upright for cheaper - even with working parts. one option if you do go with this machine is to sell off the 6 slot and the games on ebay and use that money for a j-pac and arcadevga and you're pretty much done.

I dont want to mame it. I already have a cabinet Im using for mame. I would leave this cab the way it is with the six slot neo geo board. Just curious why would I not want to buy it for mame?

There is a Neo Geo mini cab at my hockey rink. It has a 2 slot MVS board and I believe a 13'' monitor. Really cool stuff.

Stop drooling...
It's most likely a cut down full size cab...
The Neo Geo Mini's I've seen were scaled down miniture cabs.

I've seen a very similar cab that was simply a cut-down up right cab.  Find one with a decent monitor angle & do the same if you like it.

Sorry for being a butt... I just don't see the fasination with this cab.

If that is a real Neo-Geo cabinet, where is the digital credit display and the game select buttons?

Here's a page with Neo cabs (I don't know how complete it is):

GeeZ! Somebody must be married...

ouch...
I guess I deserved that...

Anyhow, it does look a lot like the "Pacific" cab on that MVS page only without the marquee, but look at the buttons... It's at least a converted/new control panel... the 4th button was added on after-the-fact.

It is a neat design, I wasn't trying to trash that... I was just having a rough night...

So please accept my apologies for my rudeness.

Pretty ugly cab even it is original, why don't you ask him how much he wants for that Galaga cab?

To each is own, but I think it's cool too.

I like cocktail cabs and sit downs.

A 6 slot is not common.  2 and 4 are, but I don't remember ever seeing a 6.  That's hot if it works and it's loaded with games.

$200-$300 might be fair for it.  $525 is a little steep.

Did all of the original MVS cabs have the digital credit display? Just curious, mine doesn't have one, but mine is a conversion. Good point on the  game select button though, where is it?

I understand that the six slot board is more prone to problems than the others, but I don't actually know that for a fact. $525 is more than I'd want to pay for that particular cab, but it does come with Metal Slug which adds some value.

And FWIW, I'm not really crazy about that design either, and agree that it may be something else that was cut down at some point.

that looks like an Australian cabinet.  Ugly sucker too.  i dont know how Aussies play on cabs like that.

$525 is way too much.  that looks like a 19 inch monitor in it.

Are you suggesting that there is something about the way it looks that would effect gameplay?

I think that he is just suggesting that having to look down while gaming would be sort of weird.  But we do it all the time with cocktails...

You do it all the time on UPRIGHTS too.
If you took a Pacman/Galaga style cab, and cut the top of it off, it would be almost that same angle, etc...

My MAME cab (which is an old Midway upright) has the monitor down at a low angle like that. I actually prefer it to my MVS which has the monitor upright. Presonal preference thing I guess.

Personally, if you have any control over the angle, it should be paralellel to your head's angle. (or another way to say it, perpendicular to your line of sight)

Mystery solved?
I found more examples of this mysterious cab, and this time it has a marquee!!

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6154971577&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6154971368&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6153734719&rd=1

The seller says these cabs are manufactured by the 2nd largest Golden Tee manufacturer(??). I don't know who that is, but that puts to rest the mystery. These cabs are "generics" built to put in whatever game kits you want.

I think it looks a little better with the marquee. Man, that guy is on some serious drugs with those opening bids.
