Clear Coating Cab??

clanggedin:

I just finished restoring a Donkey Kong Jr. Cab and I'm not sure if I should clear coat the sideart and the paint for protection. I'm going to sell this cab, so should I leave it be as it is or should I clear coat it so the sideart won't fade and make it more difficult to scratch the paint?

If I should clear coat it what type of coating would I use??

Here's a pic of the finished cab. I'll be posting before and after pics to the projects page tonight or tomorrow.

That is a gorgeous cab.

I would give the seller the option.  If you're selling it, your main concern is the condition at the time of sale, not the condition 5 years from now.  The buyer could be super anal and keep it like that indefinitely.  Then again, it could go someplace that floods in a year and it's gone.

Nice work!

If your purpose in restoring it is/was to sell it, I would base my clear coat decision on whether you expect it to sell for more by doing so.

Are you going to be able to command a higher price and will someone pay the higher price for the add'l expense you will incur?

If its pristine at the moment and ready for sale, I would probably make the decision not to add clear coat expenese....but I have no experience in restoring cabs for purposes of resell.

Best of luck!
