If you could send me, or post a image of the dimensioned joystick/button layout, I could add it to the model.

I don't really have specific dimensions foy the joystick and button layout.  I usually just eyeball them.  The buttons should be arched similar to the ones on a Sega Versus City Cab.  The indention for the joystick should be around 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" and the indention for the 6 main buttons is roughly around 4-1/4" x 5".   And if your using 3/4" wood then they would need to be 1/2" deep.  I can e-mail byrdo and see if he has any dimensioned joystick/button layouts.

The first Byrdo inspired prototypes will be made tomorrow, as well as a couple other goodies..
I will also be cutting out a "suprise" for the person that bought the first prototype...hehe.
Pictures to come!

Yes, the bottom panel, Top panel, and control panel sides are included in the kit, just didn't make it into the picture.
Pricing hasn't been set on the MsPac cocktails quite yet, but it will be soon!

And now for the unveiling!!!!

Here it is! THe Byrdo (Red Octane) inspired stick.
Note: The button configuration is for this prototype.. The groupbuy version is yet to be decided.

(I think Dweebsor knows why the buttons look like they do though... ;))

And this proto is also finished:

Everything turned out great, and the incredible accuracy of the router stil doesn't fail to impress me!

Wow that came out nice.  In fact I may even pik some up myself just to save me the time of doing the wood cuts.  I never thought my design would be professionally reproduced with a CNC machine, after seeing the final result it makes me wish I had access to one.  Great job

I really love that design. If I requested altered dimensions (heightwise) would it be at all possible to modify them for me? I'll pay the extra money if needed...

I bought both of the prototype sticks and have been amazed at how willingly he modified the original design to suit what I needed.  I cant understate what a
great deal I got on these joysticks.  When I get them here, I'll paint them, wire them up and post pics.

Again, me not thinking,  I forgot to include a couple more questions. Are the Byrdo design panels available with the 2 player (with trackball) layouts? Also, is the top of the panel hinge-able? I'd like access to the innards if at all possible. Also the custom height thing. Thanks for all the help!

Usedelectronics,

That looks awesome.  I have a couple questions that other might be wondering as well though.  Does the bottom have screws to remove it or is the top hinged?
Also, is the underside routed for joystick?  And, what type of joystick is that you have in there, and where might I be able to purchase one?

Thanks,
-Dweebs

As far as I know the boxes don't come pre-assembled so if you wanted a hinge you could just go down to home depot to put one on there when your putting the box together.  Same thing for the screws on the bottom.  The joystick looks like it is either a Wico 8-Way or a Happ P360 with a Wico Ball Top.

The prototype units (Like the one pictured, and the one your getting Dweebs0r)
Are not routed for the joystick, because they're set up for Happs parts.

The general idea of the box is that the top, front, rear, and sides are all glued together. The bottom can be drilled and screwed on for access.

As for the joystick pictured in my example, it is a Wico 8 way microleaf. (Good eye Spiffy.)
They are available on ebay from time to time.

I am nearly ready to kick off the actual group buy, as the materials, and Cad files are all ready to go.

There is a SLIM possibility that I can get the wooden tops replaced with laser cut steel panels instead. This would alleviate the need to rig the pop-in sanwa buttons being rigged into a incorrect panel thickness, and preserve the joystick height.

If this were possible, it would add $5 to 10 dollars to the price of the joystick. Would you be more interested, or prefer the routered wood panel?

Just wanted to say that I got my prototype byrdo and the other controller today and I am very pleased with the results.

Do not hesitate to get this byrdo style controller!

It is very compact and perfect for a single player type controller.

My goal is to use the byrdo as a PS2 fighting game controller (Tekken 5) and the other stick as a Mame joy.

I'm waiting on a delivery of controls from ponyboy and a hacked ps2 controller from snaake.

When I have everything, I'll glue it all together, wire it up, and post pics of the results.

Bad news on the laser cut metal.
I can't find a shop that can hold the accuracy required for a reasonable price.
So without adding 12-15$ a panel for the metal tops, it isn't going to happen.

O.k. We'll stick with the routered wood tops then.

Yes, I would have no problem offering the happs drilling.

Ok, glued my joysticks together today.

I added the few parts I had just for laughs.  I am waiting on a few parts shipments as I had previously posetd to finidh everything.  I'm going to pick up some black paint today and hopefully have Kinkos print me up an image for below the plexi tommorow.  I am extremely happy with the purchase.  Dont hesitate to buy one of the Byrdo joys!  They are quite compact and solid as a rock.

Here are a few images from my crappy camera:

Looks good Dweebs.
One suggestion, although it may be too late..
The top panel was designed so when installed, the plexi top should sit almost flush with the side panels. In your pictures the rear of the top panel is sitting pretty low.

In other news:
The materials are all at the shop now,  And once the sanwa buttons (I ordered a set or two just for the "trial" assembly process) arrive, the design will either be put into production, or modified where required.
I will post a link here when all is ready for the group buy.

Pricing news:
The group buy pricing will be as follows:
Standard design (Set up for Happ start/select buttons, routered for a sanwa joystick and the 6 sanwa buttons)  $30

Happ Design (Set up for all Happ Buttons in the same 6 button design as above, with a Happ joystick recess and hole) $30

PS2 or 8 button layout (As pictured in Dweebs0rs example pics) $30

All kits include the sides, Front and Back Panels, a 1/4" thick bottom panel, the preroutered and drilled top panel, and a matching pre-routered and drilled cast acrylic panel.

Shipping: Shipping for one or two joystick kits is the same. Will ship via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation, for $8.50

There is a possibility that we will be offering a discount on multiple kit purchases. That will be decided by the time the kits are released.

I think most people making a Sanwa stick are going to use all Sanwa buttons including start/select buttons.  I know I don't wanna pay like $5-6 shipping from Happs for just 2 buttons.

I also  think you should offer these options for the Byrdo boxes:
6 and 8 buttons layouts
straight, american button layout and curved japanese layout
regular height for Sanwa parts, and increased height for Happ parts

An a different note, where would I buy the titebond glue and clamps for assembly of the box.

Those additional layout styles shouldn't be a problem.

The clamps and titebond are available at any home improvement center typically.

As for the 2 player panels, I'd be happy to offer them still. However shipping will be pretty expensive!

Not sure if this is what you needed, but this is was taken from Catch-22's site before it went down (Astro/Versus City style layout).   Compliments of Toodles from the SRK forums.
