Floor space required for bar?
« on: January 22, 2005, 09:19:58 pm »
I have this unfinished part of my basement that is just screaming for some dry wall and a bar.    I would like to put a cabinets on the wall behine, and a counter with a sink (plumbing/drain is already there).  Does anyone have a setup like this?  Im looking for the approx depth of the cabinets, depth of the aisle, and then of course depth of the actual bar so I can figure out if this will fly.

Heres that I was thinking

--------------------------------------- <- wall
|    |sink|                                  | <- cabinets/counters
.________________________.

.--------------------------------------.
|                                                |
|       Actual Bar                         |
.________________________.

(hope the ascii turns out...)..

Thanks Chris.

The idea I suppose would be to be somewhere in the middle.  I would like to have a sink, small beer fridge w/ freezer.

As far as size.  I have a 10 by 10 foot area that I am dedicating to the project, so really the largest bar I can get in there while allowing partons to remain confortable.   ... Ive thought about reverse "L" (bar takes up two walls... with cabinets only behind the 1 .... ).  That was why I thought I would toss the question out..

This isn't really the same thing, but I recently built cabinets, a desk and a lot of shelving into my game room. Before I got started I took a piece of chalk and drew the various cabinets, and so on on the floor to get an idea of how much floor space it would take up. It was pretty helpful in getting a feel for where I wanted to build everything.

i dont really get the point of replicating a bar in your home. I mean isnt the point of going to a bar to be out in public with people you dont know, meet people, etc?

sure is.. and then crashing your car into a pole on the way home..  ::)  What I dont get is people who come into threads just to voice their negative opinion...

Why build an arcade in your basement (As many of us have).  The point was to go out and play right?

Are you a home owner?  Are your married? Have you ever had other couples over?  Ever do any entertaining?

For the people who actually have anything constructive to add :

Anyone know of a good website  that shows you different types of wood pre/post stain?

The answer is for entertaining purposes. I can't imagine what else a bar would be for.

WoW!! That guy built a pub in his basement!

The sad part is every night he comes home after a long gruelling day of work, goes down to his basement, puts on an apron. Grabs a rag... and stands behind the bar, washing the surface and waiting... for the patrons who never come.  :'(
NO MORE!!

Ive thought about building a bar into my game room. Would be great to have (as mentioned above) for entertaining.

I spent a long time googleing looking for plans and ideas, but most stuff you find out there costs you money to buy plans. We all have to make a quid I guess.

Pritty easy to design I guess, but im looking for plans if anyone knows where to find them.
