Bartop Planning
« on: October 21, 2002, 07:25:24 pm »
Hey all.  Just playing around with the computer I am planning on using for my bartop and would like to get a few opinions.

First, I am only looking to play older vertical type games such as PacMan and Galaga.  Therefore I am going with a P166 or a P233 (Which I may get tomorrow) as the computer.  I am using DOS as an OS and have everything setup and running fairly well so far.

061b runs not too bad on these games, but it is flawless with version 031b.  Does anyone have any thoughts on which version would be a nice balance between available games and speed?  The way it looks now, 031 is a great choice for me.

I am thinking about rotating a PC monitor for the cabinet.  I realize this is not suggested and less than ideal ...  However, does anyone have any exerience in doing this with a PC monitor and getting a good picture?  I always find that the colour goes out in one or two corners after awhile.  I am still wrestling with this idea and am just curious is anyone has any tips or experience doing this.

Otherwise, just for info's sake, it is a P166 with 32 megs of RAM and 4 meg video card and ALL the older games are running great in version 031b.  Like I said, 061b is pretty clunky on a few, but overall useable as well.  Thanks a lot all.
