--- Quote from: Hoagie_one on January 06, 2005, 01:12:14 pm ---yeah, double dragon was cool when they were hammer adn spike. when did they become jimmy adn billy lee? --- End quote --- Err... were originally Billy and Jimmy Lee in the ORIGINAL Japanese version. American game companies during the 80's where renouned for "Americanising" games by removing all Eastern influence from the games, including character names and often even sprites. The worst case of this I've ever seen where the old Ranma 1/2 fighting games. When they were released in the US, all of the Ranma characters where stripped out at a sprite level, and replaced with street punks. As such, the game lost all appeal to the US market and flopped. The US conversion team blamed the Japanese game developers, and no more Ranma titles were released in the US. Meanwhile, American console players continued to import them themselves. "Spike" and "Hammer" where invented to try and "toughen up" the characters for the US market. In fact all it does is make them sound like a couple of tools. Anywhere outside of the US you'll never see them named that. |

The cab shots of Double Dragon show Taito I thought the developer was Technos? |
| SirPoonga:
The Double Dragon II cabs say Romstar (look carefully at the bezel on mame.net, guess where that came from...). Romstar is who distributed DD2. As for DD1, from klov LICENSOR: Technos Manufacturer: Taito The game was developed by Technos and then licensed to Taito for manufacture and distribution in America and Europe. Technos manufactured and distributed the game themselves in Japan. |
