Palm Pilot Handheld Emulation?
« on: January 02, 2005, 10:16:14 pm »
I was reading the mini PC thread and was just thinking about how cool it would be to have a handheld mame machine

What if...

You ripped out all of the innards of a palm pilot, mounted them into a handheld box of some sort. Then possibly get some sort of mini joysticks or something and wire them up? I don't know, I'm kind of going off on a tangent and doing some dreaming. Anybody think about doing this and determine it's difficulty or if it can even be done?
I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...

If I'm understanding you correctly, it's been done before...

there's also a mini pacman I believe and I'm pretty sure it was the first but I am drawing a blank, sorry.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

That's thing is awesome!

I was looking for something more along the lines of like, a gameboy or something. Something with multiple games that can be browsed through. That'd be killer. Thanks!

By the way, where did he get those tiny joysticks?

Looks like he made the joystick out of a nail and some microswitches.

XCade is an arcade emulator for Palm OS, runs about 18 games or so.

Edit: Wow, just found out about Virtual PCB Emulator for Palm OS, another arcade emu for Palm.

Looks like (at last!) a Palm version of MAME is coming along.

PalmMAME:

Very alpha and looks like you'll have to roll back your romset to .36.  Exciting nonetheless.
