Photoshop 8)

Although its not user friendly! Its THE package to use but load it up and you will see it doesnt give any clue how to use it. If your gonna use it for the very first time I suggest you get a Photoshop for Dummies.

Then practice, practice, practice!

Of course you may wish to vectorise the artwork artferwards if your that way inclined in which case you will also need Adobe Illustrator too!

Thats about $500 per program!

Have you tried PaintShop Pro? It's as good as Photoshop but without the brand name recognition the other enjoys. You can download a demo from their webpage (http://www.jasc.com/).

PaintShop Pro is very good, just not AS good as Photoshop and if your dealing with Vector artowrk you will need a program that understands each others naitive formats by default.

Photoshop is also still more powerful, but thats not to say PaintShop Pro doesnt have its points either.

Ummm usually the order you go in is you use a vector program like Illustrator (30 day trial available on www.adobe.com) or Freehand (www.macromedia.com) to create all your "solid" hard edged designs.

Then you can bring it into Photoshop or PaintShop Pro to add effects...

At least, that's my way of working on visuals...
NO MORE!!

There's no limits as to what you can do with photoshop. You just have to take the time to lear it. Chances are that if you are trying to do a specific thing in ps type it in the ps search engine and up will pop a how to.

It's 9am. I'm calling it a nite.

That's cool man. Yes Photoshop is a bit more feature rich, but that would be very nitpicky considering the amount of features PSP has. It's also easy to overlook PSP against Photoshop's well established brand name. I think PSP has everything a guy would need to do all the image and vector editing he needs for his cabinet. Maybe some might appreciate PSP's shareware version, which would save some money and do the same job.

Its interesting that everyone is recommending photoshop.  Shouldn't they be recommending Illustrator?  Illustrator is an actual vector drawing program, while photshop is a mostly raster drawing program (yes, I know it has paths, I said mostly).

FWIW, I use Inkscape, an excellent SVG editor for Linux (free, of course: http://inkscape.sf.net).

Whilst this does not even come close to trying to compete with the above commercial products, it's a damn nice editor particularly for filters etc AND it's freeware!
