It's bugged/confused me since the book first came out.... and i'm finally making a thread about it.

What the heck is "I'm not your friend" supposed to mean/be from on the front cover?

I get the cover concept... but either i'm missing the reference, or am otherwise oblivious.. what does it all mean saint?!

Seriously, I don't know either. Maybe it's referring to the computer and about setting it up.

If you find a couple of other books from the ExtremeTech series, you'll notice they all have pretty stupid attention-grabbers like this. It's meant to catch your eye so you pick the book up to figure out what the heck they're talking about. At that point, you go "mmmmmmmm, arcade!" in your best Homer Simpson impression, buy the book, and try to forget the gibberish on the cover.

I assumed that it meant once you get your arcade machine all set up, the computer will spend all of its time trying to kill you. That, and the difficulty the computer will give you getting everthing set up(I wrestled with getting DOS to see my sound cards).

But hey, if the computer is not your friend, at least it won't try to borrow money from you.

I thought it had something to do with keyboard ghosting, cause doesn't right under it it say "Help prevent misfires" or something like that? I dunno I guess I'm a newbie too.

Yeah, I figured it was talking about the computer not wanting to be your friend. Since it says trick your computer it is kinda like, "Take Advantage of your computer... go on, it really wants it despite what it is saying"

Or something way out in right field like that.

I think, "I'm not your friend" means a computer pretending to be a arcade machine ,a arcade machine wants to separate you from your money (not a friend)and a PC is your servant(a friend),so in other words a comp. pretends to be a arcade machine your enemy hence the frase "I'm not your friend"....and it also gets your attention.

PSST.....those are actually tommy's quarters he pays saint for wasting his bandwidth on the site. I read it on the intra-nets, so that's how I know it's true even if I'm the guy who typed it!

I always took at as "I'm not your friend" because once you pick up this book you'll be addicted too..

I thought it was just a cheesy line refferencing to the fact hes not your friend because hes teaching you how to "Trick" and "Eliminate"....Bad things?...I dont know
