Space Paranoids Artwork
« on: December 16, 2004, 07:48:39 pm »
There was some interest in the artwork I was working on for my Space Paranoids cabinet.  Here's a few details about what I'm working on:

http://jarrettheather.com/spaceparanoids/

Any feedback would be most appreciated. :)

Agreed.  *tear*

30x40 at 300 dpi?!?!? Wow.  Photoshop wouldn't let me go above 150 dpi at 52x17.  What, did you take a nap while waiting for it to load?  Nonetheless, I salute you.

Clerks, the Animated Series.

Very nice work.  Quite possibly the nicest homebrew cabinet art I've seen.  Look forward to seeing the finished product.

I am in awe!

Hats off to some seriously good artwork!

My only thoughts is that you should make it in a Tron cab rather than a killer instinct style cab. I had it in my head it was that shaped anyhow, but I could be wrong. I remember the bezel actually appeared on ebay some time back.... That appears in the movie doesnt it...

If I had a TRON cab, I'd actually keep the TRON graphcis on it.  In fact, some day I'd like to find an old TRON cab and refurbish it.

Besides that, I already have the SlikStik cab in question.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for the compliments!

I love the artwork!

I like the effect of the 'shooting' trail. It's a very strong visual image (it looks better than the original DVD still I saw on your site).

I figured it would be a great effect for people with an arkanoid/breakout cab. Replace the Tron characters with a bat and you're done!

I have to say I like Ravage's version of the artwork than the one on Jarrett's webpage (see below)...it's just my personal taste.

OOPs... Mine was just a tribute! Its not exactly how I have in my minds eye (i'd have the classic tron phos colours on the sides and stuff too) but just *had* to make a cab image up after seeing it this morning :)

I'll stick to scanning cabs and vectoring them - i couldnt possibly do anything THAT good :)

I think there is a very cool sense of depth and symetry with the 3 recognizers swooping along the contours of the SlikStik cab...

Nice job.  If you're looking to share the files, I think saving them out as JPG at high quality would make the filesize pretty manageable.  I converted my sideart to JPG when I brought it to be printed, and I think it came in under a megabyte.  Mine has lots of flat colors though...

LOL! I know what you mean!

"The Last StarFighter" artwork shouldn't be too difficult to pull off. It's not that complicated. I'm sure with a few screen grabs from a copy of the official DVD it could be bashed up in no time.

Ravage seems to be on "speed" at the moment and doesnt seem to be stopping anytime soon! Which is nothing short of amazing work!

If I was to try and make a movie tribute to TRON with "Space Paranoids", I'd definately use a TRON cabinet (maybe GORF too?) and replace the sideart with the images Ravage bashed up.

Reason being you'd need the TRON controls to really use it.

Thanks, but it was an off the cuff remark - I'm not about to build a Last Starfighter cab anytime soon, and the current cab is the wrong shape.

If I did get a round tuit I'd just vector it myself, it's not exactly complex artwork.

Very cool artwork- Wish I had that before I did my Space Paranoids- I collect movie props and arcade machines and had the same idea you had about fictional (prop) arcade machines- I actually wrote a version of Space Paranoids and built a cabinet around it-

http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=2263&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=10431&t=i

http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=10437&t=i

The game itself is a dual joystick, 15 level 80's style game- The game and artwork are freeware. I wish I had used your artwork though (mine is OK but not nearly as cool).

Believe it or not, I have one of the existing Starfighter cabs- Mine is the one from the documentary (my understanding is the one from the film was destroyed?)- I have been working on the software on and off for a year and a half (about 2/3 done)-

http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=3760&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=3761&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=3762&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=3763&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=3767&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=3768&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=15181&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=15182&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=15185&t=i
http://www.fotoheap.com/image.php?on=207&an=672&in=15189&t=i

Be glad to get specific photos if need be. The cabinet is, in every sense, a prop. The controls are balsa and I will need to replace with machined metal. The sideart is mostly applique of some sort. The Star League emblem is paper (lightly glued on) and I would love a better version as a replacement.

For those interested, the Space Paranoids stuff, Starfighter (early demo), and some multicab stuff (TRON artwork and frontend, Daphne artwork and frontend) as well as miscellaneous stuff can be downloaded at www.roguesynapse.com. The site is due for an update soon to include a small demo of "Bishop of Battle", a playable demo of Starfighter, and a simple rough executable version of Death Race (1976 Exidy).

Really wish I had the Space Paranoids artwork a year ago- Beautiful work.
