Excitement at work (One More Pic!)
RacerX:
I was on my way to work this morning, and I saw a column of black smoke rising into the air, and when I got to work, it was my office building that was on fire! The air conditioning unit on the roof was flaming and smoking, and my department (Information Services, and the data center for the entire bank) is on the top floor.
Luckily nobody was injured, and the fire was contained to the roof. So now our big problem is how to keep our mainframe, AS/400, and network servers cool with no air conditioning. Wish us luck!
(And yes, I'm taking time out to post this on BYOAC!) ;D
*Edit*: The fire was in an old and unused air conditioning unit's cooling tower, which is made of Redwood. The odd thing is there is no power running to that unit. There were, however, some guys up there welding on something yesterday, and we're wondering if something has been smoldering up there all night.
Our A/C is functional now, so the servers are okay.
Here's a picture of the fire from the roof of the building across the street.

Damn someone needs to wash that building.

Yeah, you would think that the Fire Dept. would lend a hand with that. I mean what else do they have to do all day?

ROTFL!!! If you only knew how many times those of us that work here said that! It actually was pressure washed about 5 years ago. But we couldn't tell the difference when it was done.
We've just been purchased by Citigroup (actually, the sale is final early in January). Perhaps they will spruce the place up a bit. :D

That As/400 will run in 100 degree heat, don't worry about it. Throw it down the stairs, it will probably keep working.
