Mouse Hack Issues

crashball:
I picked me up a suzo trackball from Ultimarc and am attempting the mouse hack interface like on Lusid's web site.  My problem is I can't get it to work after soldering the connections to the mouse PCB.  I tried to test it before removing the light reader diode thing (not the technical name i know) just by holdin the wires to the soldered contacts and was able to get some movement.  After removing the sensors and soldering the wires, i get nothing.  I think I am using the right kind of solder but the package is long gone. Is there anyway to tell what kind I have?  If I remove the solder on the connections it looks as if the metal or shiny ring around the hole is not longer there, like it got rubbed off when I tried to get the solder off. I think the etching may even be coming off on one, I probably baked it.  The PC still detects the mouse and the buttons still work, but no movement.  I Think I have toasted 2 mouse PCBs in one way or another and snapped a 3rd in half trying to get it out of the case. Would the wrong kind of solder not conduct a connection or is my conenction bad?  Any tips from those who have done it would be appriciated.

Oscar sells a premade mouse hack for a good price. Check his webpage

It's a touchy hack.  Some mice just don't work, and I only tried it with Happ's sensor board.

I think you've killed enough rodents.  Time to buy an interface.

Try this one from Minwah's site. Worked for me.
