this will sound uber retarded.. but did you mix up your NO and NC connections.. itll do exactly what your saying if you did..

I thought that was the problem at first, but any other game I play doesn't mess up as easily. Mk3 messes up the controls instantly and doesn't fix itself, but other games take a long time to mess up and it's usually not so bad, it ends up going away.

I still haven't tested it with the other games ever since changing that "repeat rate". If the other games work, then it's a mk3 problem. I'll go test it on smash tv, that's the game that usually starts to mess up on the 2nd level.

Ok I tested it with smash tv. In about 10 seconds of playing, it kept running up and shooting  up. It went away after a minute or so. I was able to play awhile after without it happening again. It seems to be completely random.

You gotta take baby steps then.....

Disconnect ALL switches (joystick switches too), then just hook up a few of them, test it out, if it's all OK, then reconnect a few more, test out... and so forth until you encounter the problem again. That will narrow it down (if it is indeed mixed up NC/NO/GRND)

I do have a crappy wireing job(wires are twisted on), so it may be the problem. I looked real closely and I didn't see anything touching the "no". I only have 3 wires going to the ground, they are all daisy chained. Maybe one of the daisy chained ground wires are touching an "nc", but i'd think it wouldn't work then.

I hope this is the problem because I need to rewire them anyways.

All your wiring should be hooked to the NO contacts, not the NC contacts.

The NC (normally closed, think "connected" here) contacts send a signal ALL the time.
The NO (normally open, like disconnecting the wire) contacts only send a signal when the button is pressed.

I have a similar problem with messed up controls. I am still using a standard keyboard as I haven't build my control panel as yet.

Even when playing something as simple as Space Invaders, the keys only work for a short while. In Space invaders for example, I can move left or right using the curser keys, if I then press contol key to fire the curser keys will start to behave eratically, I will probably move to the far right, and cant get back, a few more shots and left curser will work for a while.

When I come out of MAME, the keyboard does not work properly, and I end up rebooting to cure.

Please advise as it is driving me nuts.

(I don't have this issue with any other PC applications)
