Mini desktop cab?

Richard Harvey:

Just curious if anyone knows of any successful cabs that are basically mini-cabs meant to sit on a desktop. I'm wanting to build one that uses a small (14") monitor in vertical orientation, with a single 4-way stick and 5 buttons (coin, 1 player, 2 player, fire, shield). I'm trying to find designs for the smallest form factor that would reasonably fit on a typical desk.

I built one with a 17 inch monitor for desk/bartop use.  It could have been a smaller form factor but I wanted the traditional marquee as well.  I think one of the smallest I have seen was a mini pac.  It is in the examples area again after disappearing for a while. It was an actual arcade board not a mame cab.

Rough plans are on the site.

Good Luck

Nice cab BobA!

I'm currently working on a desktop cabinet with a 14" vertical monitor. I looked at a lot of countertop cabs and the design I liked best is PacFan's Minipac http://pacfan69.tripod.com/cabinets/id6.html. His uses a 9" monitor, so for a 14" monitor the dimensions have to be scaled up a bit. The footprint ends up being about 18" wide by 27" deep. I will post some pics and plans on my site once it is done. Since I have an abundance of 14" monitors, I am also building a horizontal monitor countertop cab.

BTW, Oscar also has a nice one at http://www.skum.org/bartop/

Here's another cool Bartop Cab to look at:

I don't know if this will help you or not but this this shows a motherboard that measures 7"x7.5" with S-video out.
