Like Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam etc.... as far as I can tell, they were Happs Ultimate joysticks. As far as Ultimates go, are they good? I own them and I think they're fine and traditional.. |

It actually varied a lot, although Ultimates did seem to be the most common ones on dedicated units. Conversion ones could have anything. |

I went with competition just because I originally thought xarcade joysticks could cut it but they stick in one direction and are Horrible for anything but 4 player beatumups. With the square actuator anyone who has never played a fighting game can learn moves and combos almost immediately. Never tried ultimates or supers but Im convinced I would be happy with anything that Happ provides. |

Ok I e-mailed Midway as well as went to my school's arcade today and compared my ultimate joystick shaft with the shafts in other arcade games with similar looking joysticks (obvious difference between these and supers) even where one machine look like a converted Midway/MK machine and they all had a thicker shaft and lighter color blue which I remember being like my competition so I'm led to believe these WERE the more common joystick, can anyone else back this up? Given that, which basically means the Ultimate joystick wasn't really common in arcades and given the poor reviews people have given it (I find it to be great but I guess that only means the others are better?), should I use a competition or ultimate joystick in my PS2-Arcade machine (modeled after an MK cabinet, but meant to play a wide array of games from Tekken to MK to street fighter to Pac-Man to Galaga etc)? Does the Ultimate have any all-around advantages over competition? Or is competition just as good or better for all-around play? |
