Illuminated Pushbuttons
« on: July 10, 2002, 05:19:05 am »
Hi Guys/Gals,

I am thinking of building my own cab for mame and was wondering if there is any way to connect the Illuminated Pushbuttons to the pc power supply.

The reason I want Illuminated Pushbuttons are for the start buttons.

Would it be possible to connect the buttons to my num lock, scroll lock keys through my keyboard encoder.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

The lights on most illuminated pushbuttons are 12V.  All you need to do is tap into an unused device power plug (one of the ones with 4 wires).  This plug has 12V wire, 5V wire, and 2 grounds (I can't remeber which is which right now).  Use a volt meter to find which is which.  I used the 4 wire plug for my illuminated pushbuttons and it works great.

Only with a small circuit - I've got one on my homepage. If you connect this circuit to 12V and leave the resistor in line of the LED out, you can drive a 12V-lamp too.

For directly connecting you could only use low-current LED's, which won't bring enough light in your buttons, I guess.

Thanks alot guys, looks like I may just go for the connecting to the power supply.

Would of liked to connedt them to my i-pac through the num lock key and get them to flash in some games.
