Posted this to the NGs. Thought I'd post it here. Found a use for an old water damaged Tempest cabinet in my garage. Sort of a reincarnation of sorts. so.. i came up with an idea for an art show in california called the Box Show that sends out wooden boxes to artists.. the artists then make whatever they want as long as it includes the box. at the end of the show they auction off the pieces. i used this box as the base of a miniature mame cabinet. i think it was 12x12 5 inches deep. (the box is the red base at the bottom) fired up the old 3d program and got to designing.. came up with these to scale.. went out to the garage with a jigsaw and a hand drawn template to save what was left of a badly water damaged tempest cabinet. (so sad to see that go - f*ing leaky roof). here's the 3d render with the tempest art... by adjusting my template i got a really good piece of the artwork for both sides. i had a gutted laptop i planned to use .. a little 486. and I'd have been happy to have it run a single game. but my deadline was so tight (procrastination killed me) and I didnt have time to wire it up. i had it all working and ready to go. here's a VERY poor photo of the finished box. this thing was really f'ing cool! I created a custom marquee for the occasion and at least got that to light with a little 9 inch flourescent tube. wish I would have took more photos before I shipped it out there and wish they would have taken some better photos. final piece was about 26 inches tall and 13.5 inches wide and deep and auctioned for like $90 even not working. i'm making myself one this weekend thought the best part of the artwork is gone.. screw it. getting some cool designed vinyl printed for this wouldn't really be that expensive at $14 a sq foot. so ... anyone in NYC / NJ area have any decent side art on a real ratty cabinet they're gonna trash that I could salvage? i'll come pick it up. just have an extension cord so I can bring my circular saw! i'm not TOO busy this weekend. later. kDot |
